7-day Water Fast Challenge

Tomorrow, the 18th of January 2012, i intend to go on a 7 day water fast challenge. My heart tells me to go for 40 days but i know that my body is not prepared for that. I, therefore, do not want to put too much pressure on myself because for longer fasts, one has to prepare mentally and physically.

For the past days, until today, i've been eating normally. Normal eating for me is two meals (three, at times) with at least a litre of water. For that reason, a longer fast is not ideal for me right now.

When you suddenly cut out food from your system, the body will react in a negative way during the first few days and then normalise later. Of course, this is nothing to worry about as this is all part of cleansing and detox.

I could have done more days, but i figured that it's better to set lower standards for myself for now then set higher ones as i progress (by then, fasting will be more or less a lifestyle).

My first official weigh-in is tomorrow. I intend to drink at least 2 litres of water per day everyday for the next 7 days. I will, most probably, weigh myself each morning so i know how much i lose on average per day. Since i'll be in the office all day, i'm not going to get any time to do a few light exercises but i'll definitely stretch to soften my muscles. I'm hoping to find ketone strips in one of the pharmacies around town (couldn't find any the other time i looked) just so i know when my body enters into ketosis. My toothbrush will be my best friend for the next 7 days: where i will be, there it will be also!

As i proceed, i will explain what a lot of words mean, like ketosis, metabolism, detoxification etc.

It's about 10pm now and time i lay me down to sleep, tomorrow is a big day!

  1. Hey i love the initiative to lose weight, how i wish everybody would understand the health risks with being obese and not keeping fit. Well i would like to just say why not mix your fast with fruits and not just water. the fruits will revitalize your body with the required carbs n other nutrients. Fruits will never let you gain weight. Am on spiritual fast, and i have also taken the fast to try n flatten my belly in the process. I have lost a lot of weight coz now i have one full meal a day and when i break my fast i make sure i jug down at least 2 litres of water and lots of fruits. This is the season of Mangos and Bananas so those are my breaking the fast foods. Since you want to lose weight as well i see you have included exercise in your program as well but i suggest you exercise more than you used to. coz that will also speed up the weight loss. Anyway keep it up my dear. by the way i have lost enough weight that my 6 months in Gym are not showing anymore. next month i will start training again and this time i hope to gain weight properly n have a sexy 6 pack.......mwaah

  2. Thanks Uncle T for the support. I know i'll be fine on water only because i've a lot of fat in my body. A person who is as big as i am can survive for up to 40 days on water only because of a process called ketosis, where the body converts fat stores into energy. The
    body switches from
being a carbohydrateburning- organism into a fat- burning one. The fat stores
    become a primary
    energy source, and
    the person loses
    weight.

As for exercise, because my energy levels will be low, i can only manage to stretch or walk. Any strenous activity will do harm to my body, there are chamber that i might even pass out so i would like to keep it all minimal.

Wish you the best on your fast. And yes, we do want that six pack back lol..
